STATE VISIT OF HON. KLAUS IOHANNES, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ROMANIA IN TANZANIA

From 16th to 19th November 2023, H.E. Klaus Iohannes, the President of the Republic of Romania, visited Tanzania for four days. The visit aims to implement the Romanian government’s New Strategy to improve political, diplomatic, and economic relations with African countries (New Strategy for Africa). The purpose of his visit to Tanzania was to revive and enhance economic and diplomatic cooperation between Tanzania and Romania.

While in Tanzania, President Iohannes held talks with various government leaders, including H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania; H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council. Also, he visited the National Museum in Dar es Salaam and tourist attractions in Zanzibar.
During the visit, Tanzania and Romania signed two agreements, one concerning the promotion of economic, scientific, and technical cooperation in the agricultural and environmental sectors and the second being an agreement between the office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of the Interior of Romania for collaboration in response to disasters and international humanitarian aid.

Also, these two countries have agreed to increase the scope of scholarships, especially in the fields of medicine and pharmacy, where Romania has decided to offer ten scholarships to Tanzanians. At the same time, Tanzania has agreed to provide five scholarship opportunities for young Romanians to study at the universities of their choice in Tanzania as an opportunity to contribute to the Government's efforts to build capacity for human resources and strengthen services in various sectors.
